Frequently Asked Questions
How do I clean the inside of my urn or any other stainless steel appliance?
Most hot water urns (or any other appliances which heat water) collect water born particles on the inside surfaces of the unit, which can have an effect on the taste as well as being harmful to the heating element and outlet faucet operation.
To dissolve these particles and clean the appliance satisfactorily, follow these instructions:
1. Fill your appliance to the desired water level (no less than 1/3 full)
2. Sprinkle approximately 75 grams of CROWN Stainless Steel Urn Cleaner into the water
3. Bring to the boil and maintain the boil for 10 minutes
4. Allow the water to cool to a manageable temperature
5. Fill a cup/mug/jug from the urn tap and then tip that water into the sink
6. Unplug the urn
7. Pour out the urn water using a swirling motion
8. Rinse the urn interior with cold water
9. Go back to using your urn as per normal
NOTE: If your appliance is still not clean, follow the instructions for a second time but this time, allow the water to cool and sit for 2 hours. With the appliance unplugged and the water cool enough, give the inside of the unit a scrub with a standard dishwashing cloth (NO STEEL WOOL). Rinse with cold water and go back to using your appliance as per normal.
How do I replace a broken water level tube on my urn?
1. Unscrew the broken off threaded piece inside the square elbow with a small bladed screw driver pushed into the plastic and turn in an anticlockwise direction until the broken piece comes out completely.
2. Fit the new water level tube with the top end into the top bracket first then screw the threaded end into the square elbow in a clockwise direction until it won't go any further inside. It is highly recommended that you smear some food-grade clear silicon to the thread to ensure you achieve a water-tight seal.
3. Test with water for leaks, if OK your urn is ready to use again; if not, contact CROWN.
Do I need to replace the whole tap assembly on my appliance if it is leaking?
In most circumstances, the answer is no. You only need to replace the whole tap assembly if:
1. The tap body, handle or top-nut has been damaged; or
2. The internal replacement parts for your current tap, are obsolete.
Therefore, you will generally only need to replace internal components which consist of a silicone cup, a spindle and a spring. We can talk you through the replacement process if you need assistance.
How do I replace a tap insert on my CROWN Urn?
A. The procedure is simple:
1. Turn your urn off and unplug.
2. Empty your urn via the tap until no more water comes out. Empty the remaining water into a sink.
3. Make sure the unit and tap has cooled so you can comfortably touch both
4. Unscrew (counter clockwise) the round nut which sits underneath the tap handle. We call this the “top nut”
5. Continue to unscrew the top nut until you can extract the handle, top nut, spring, spindle and silicon cup from the tap body. They work together as a single piece.
6. Once extracted, simply replace the tap insert by placing it into the tap (ensuring the silicon cup is correctly seated).
7. Screw the top nut onto the body of the tap ensuring you do not over-tighten. Hand tight should be sufficient.
8. Your unit should now be ready again for use.

If the tap insert is screwed on too tight, it may cause the tap to leak.
Should I turn-off my wall mounted boiling water unit over the holiday period?
It is better to leave the unit on. The unit components are designed to remain hot at all times. If you want the longest possible life out of your unit without unnecessary downtime or the requirement to replace parts, it is best to keep your unit switched on at all times.

How do I replace a tap insert on my CROWN Wall Mounted Boiling Water Unit?
The procedure is simple:
1. Turn your unit off and unplug. (if hard wired-in, simply switch off at the isolation switch).
2. Empty the unit by opening the tap fully allowing the water to drain. Ensure you take all necessary care to ensure you and/or others are protected from the hot water.
3. Once fully drained at the tap, allow the unit to cool for 30 minutes.
4. After 30 minutes, undo the drain plug located underneath and to the rear and allow the water to drain for approximately 30 seconds. The purpose of this is to lower the water level an additional 2 to 5cm. There is no need to drain it fully.
4. Now that the water level is low enough to change the tap insert, unscrew (counter clockwise) the round nut which sits underneath the tap handle.
